Gourmet/Recipes

Prepare your own gourmet meals at home.

Few ingredients are as simple to use—or as naturally flavorful—as gourmet and specialty mushrooms. Using a Mushroom Shack Mushroom Farm™ growing kit, you can have the freshest possible mushrooms available all the time.

There is more than one way to add the flavor and texture of mushrooms to your cooking. One way is, of course, to just add them whole or sliced to your recipes. To keep your mushrooms fresh until you’re ready to use them, wrap them in wax paper. They’ll stay fresh in your refrigerator for 1-2 weeks. You can achieve the same results by refrigerating them in brown paper bags.

Another way to cook with mushrooms is to dry them first. Just lay them on top of a paper towel or paper bag until they are dried. Simply store them at room temperature to keep them flavorful for months. NOTE: You’ll want to soak your dried mushrooms in water before cooking with them, unless they will be part of a soup or stew. You can also use the water in which you’ve soaked the mushrooms to make a flavorful broth.

Finally, dried mushrooms can be ground into a powder form and used as a seasoning, or to make great-tasting teas.

Remember—mushrooms are fat-free, low in calories, and full of vitamins and other nutrients, including B6, C, D, niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. So you can feel good about seasoning your foods in such a healthy, natural manner.

Try incorporating mushrooms into your lunch, dinner … even breakfast. Your body—and your taste palate—will thank you!
